Andrean baseball rolls to regional victory, moves up to Class 4A

The calendar has turned to June, and for the Andrean Fighting 59ers, that means playoff baseball. Andrean enters Saturday’s Class 3A Regional matchup against New Prairie High School with a 27-3 record and plenty of momentum.

The 59ers have won three straight postseason games, defeating River Forest 25-0, Lowell 12-2, and Illiana Christian 5-0 while outscoring opponents 42-2 during that stretch. The regional showdown presents Andrean’s next challenge as it looks to continue its pursuit of a state championship. The 59ers have relied on a balanced approach all season, combining a productive offense with a pitching staff that has consistently limited opposing teams. After suffering back-to-back losses late in the regular season, Andrean responded by playing some of its best baseball of the year when the stakes became highest. That resilience has helped position the 59ers as one of the top remaining teams in Indiana Class 3A.

On Saturday at Four Winds Field, Andrean defeated New Prairie 9–6 to capture the Regional crown and advance to semi‑state. The 59ers struck early with three runs in the first, then broke open the game with a six‑run sixth inning. Despite being out‑hit 8–4, Andrean capitalized on New Prairie’s miscues and delivered clutch offense to secure the win. With the Regional title, Andrean now moves up to Class 4A for the next two seasons under the IHSAA success factor, continuing its pursuit of another state championship.

Adding to these successes, senior pitcher Ian Funk was honored as NCC Pitcher of the Year after going 5‑0 against conference foes with a 1.73 ERA and 39 strikeouts.

Fellow senior Kaden Maxwell earned a First Team All‑Conference nod, driving in 14 runs against league opponents while also posting a 3‑0 pitching record and a 2.05 ERA. These accolades underscore the individual excellence that has fueled Andrean’s team-wide dominance and highlight the leadership of its senior core heading into the next stage of the postseason.
