Andrean High School’s varsity girls soccer team suffered a challenging 4–0 defeat at home to Griffith on Saturday, dropping the Fighting 59ers to 0–3 early in the season.
Griffith set the tone with an opening goal midway through the first half, then broke the match open after intermission with three more scores. Forward Miriam Avalos and midfielder Mallory Stordeur powered the Panthers’ attack, combining pace and accuracy to put Andrean on its heels. The 59ers’ defense was left scrambling to recover as Griffith’s pressure forced repeated turnovers in their own half.
Despite the final score, Andrean showed resilience in stretches, producing a handful of promising breakaway opportunities. Each chance, however, was denied by timely defensive stops or alert goalkeeping. The 59ers struggled to hold possession in midfield and string together extended passing sequences, which allowed Griffith to dictate tempo for much of the contest.
Head coach Grant Bell acknowledged the offensive lapses but emphasized positives in the team’s work rate and defensive commitment late. Andrean now turns focus to its upcoming fixtures, aiming to regroup quickly and build confidence.
