Andrean advanced to the sectional championship with a dominant 17–0 victory over Lake Station Edison in Thursday’s playoff matchup at Wheeler High School.
The Fighting 59ers set the tone immediately on May 28, erupting for 10 runs in the first inning and never easing off as their offense controlled the game from the opening pitch.
Senior pitcher Sadie Drousias delivered two shutout innings with no hits allowed and added a perfect 1‑for‑1 performance at the plate that included four RBI, a triple, and a run scored. Freshman Sommer Branigin matched her in the circle with two hitless innings of her own, striking out five to keep the Eagles off balance throughout.
Andrean’s lineup stayed hot behind senior Maddy McCoy, who went 3‑for‑3 with three runs, one RBI, and a stolen base. In comparison, freshman Ava Zygmuntowski reached base in all three plate appearances and contributed two runs, two RBI, and a triple. Junior Jayci Alba added another spark by going 1‑for‑2 with two runs, two RBI, and a double as the 59ers piled up 17 hits in just five innings.
The win pushes Andrean to 17–11 and sends the 59ers into the sectional championship with momentum on both sides of the ball.
