Andrean’s 4–3 softball loss to Hanover Central came in a conference matchup defined by early momentum, missed chances, and a late push that fell just short.
The gritty battle happened on April 13 at Andrean High School.
The 59ers opened strong with a two-run first inning, where Andrean jumped ahead 2-0 before Hanover settled in. Andrean matched Hanover hit-for-hit with nine hits apiece, but three defensive errors proved costly, directly influencing the one-run margin.
At the plate, several 59ers delivered quality swings. Ashlyn Hite went 2-for-4, posting a .500 average and a .750 slugging percentage in the game. Maddy McCoy reached base three times, finishing with a .750 OBP, while Sadie Drousias added a hit and a walk to help fuel Andrean’s offense. Freshman Ava Zygmuntowski also contributed a hit.
Drousias carried the full pitching load, working all seven innings. She allowed nine hits but only two earned runs, striking out three. Her steadiness kept Andrean within striking distance throughout.
Andrean now turns to its next conference matchup against Kankakee Valley on April 16.
The teams split last year’s meetings, Kankakee winning 10–8 on April 16, and Andrean answering with a 9–4 win on May 6, setting up another competitive chapter in the series.
