Kaden Maxwell said wearing an Andrean uniform comes with expectations that extend far beyond wins and losses, especially for a program coming off a state championship season.
“I just feel like it’s an honor,” Maxwell said. “It holds me accountable. I’ve got to stay disciplined and keep working at it because I’ve got to meet his standards and the standards of the teams before us.”
Maxwell explained that hearing about past standout players motivates the current roster to maintain the program’s tradition rather than rely on what last year’s team accomplished.
“He’s got a lot of stories about previous players that have been excellent,” Maxwell said. “It just makes you want to strive to be better and keep working.”
Coming off the title run, Maxwell said the team’s success was rooted in chemistry and unselfish play.
“The main reason we won last year was because we played for each other,” he said. “You play for the guy behind you. You do the little things right, even if that means sacrificing your own at-bat.”
Maxwell believes maintaining that team-first mindset will be the key to determining how far Andrean can go this season.
