Kaden Maxwell was untouchable on the mound Saturday morning, throwing a complete-game three-hitter as the Andrean 59ers blanked Westfield 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel.
The game was scoreless through four innings, with each team only able to accumulate walks and singles in a defensive battle. Chase Nelson grounded out with a runner on third to plate the game’s only run and give Andrean the lead it would protect the rest of the way.
Maxwell earned the win with seven strong innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out five and walking three. Westfield starter Evan Govert worked four scoreless frames, scattering three hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Reliever James Kovacs took the loss, surrendering the lone run on two hits over three innings with four strikeouts.
Andrean finished with five hits. Miller Stalbaum and Luke Goben each collected two. Nelson drove in the game’s only run. The 59ers played error-free defense, and Aidan Gnatt handled a game-high nine chances at first base.
Westfield’s Andrew Noble led the offense with two hits in three at-bats from the leadoff spot. The Shamrocks also committed no errors, with Robbie Brandenburg recording seven chances in the field.
