Maddie McCoy said Andrean’s run to the state finals last season proved how resilient the program can be when players trust one another.
“Making state was a huge confidence boost, not just for us but for our coaches too,” McCoy said. “Losing in sectionals my sophomore year was hard, but coming back from that showed how much our team truly cared for each other and how much work we put in.”
Now a senior on a roster with many new faces, McCoy said leadership and communication will determine how far the team can go this spring.
“I think being in their shoes because of our age, it helps us communicate with them and teach them how to improve,” she said. “We want to bond with them and make them feel comfortable working with us as a team.”
McCoy added that the group’s primary goal is steady improvement while chasing another deep postseason run.
“Our main goal is to improve overall as a team and be better than we were last year,” she said. “We want to keep getting better in the little things.”
With expectations high at Andrean, McCoy believes the team’s chemistry and leadership will be critical to making another push toward state.
