Miguel Rivera closed out his senior season by competing in the IHSAA Semi-State at 285 pounds, marking the end of his high school wrestling career at Andrean.
Rivera advanced through the IHSAA State Tournament series, reaching the semi-state round held Feb. 15 at East Chicago Central High School.
The Andrean heavyweight placed fourth at both the sectional and regional levels to earn his spot at semi-state. His fourth-place finish at the Hobart Regional secured his advancement and extended his postseason run. Rivera battled through the state series to keep his season alive and represent the Fighting 59ers on one of Indiana’s biggest postseason stages.
At semi-state, Rivera faced Warsaw’s Kameron Kauffman and was defeated by pin in 13 seconds, bringing his season — and his high school career — to a close.
Competing in the heavyweight division, Rivera’s senior campaign was defined by perseverance through the state tournament and the opportunity to wrestle under the bright lights of semi-state competition. Advancing to the final weekend of the state series stands as a significant achievement and caps his time in an Andrean singlet.
