Andrean High School’s head coach, Chris Skinner, reflects on the 59ers’ recent season-ending loss. The team suffered a 20-13 defeat at home during the semi-state playoffs in 2023, which has become a focal point for their offseason training.
According to Skinner, “Going through an entire season and trying to add up all the little things that could have swung that game by seven points, that’s been a theme. It’s been a lot of motivation.” The team shared the Northern Crossroads Conference (NCC) title and reached the semi-state with strong senior leadership. This group played a crucial role in maintaining stability amid injuries and challenges but has since graduated, leaving new players to fill their shoes.
Skinner noted, “We’ve asked younger guys like Ethan Reyna to step into that role as a junior. It’s been a productive summer, but here we are, scrimmage week, ready to go.”
Senior player Ben Novak expressed his determination following the loss: “Walking off that field losing by seven points has just been the main motivating factor. I have one last run with my brothers, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure we make it back.”
