Head Baseball Coach Dave Pishkur talked about his team’s outlook heading into the new season, reflecting on last year’s state championship and the challenges ahead.
Pishkur is excited about returning a strong core of players, but stressed the uncertainty until games begin. He explained that while offseason training builds strength and experience, the real test is seeing who can compete and adjust once the season starts.
“We have some good arms back… I think we have a good starting nine we should have, and very typical for a school of our size, we just don’t have a lot of depth, so we can’t afford injuries,” Pishkur said.
He also compared this year’s mindset to last season, when the team carried a chip on its shoulder. The culture remains steady, built on hard work, high expectations, and a demanding schedule, with new leaders now stepping into roles once held by graduates.
“I kind of like where we’re at this year, knowing that we won a state championship and we’re coming back,” he said. “I don’t think it’s changed. The culture is the culture, right? The culture is, you know, these kids work hard. They know what the expectations are.”
Andrean graduate Pishkur has coached since 1980, now in his 45th season.
